Accurate DSM-5 and ICD-10 diagnoses

Dr. Maxwell uses semi-structured interviews alongside well-validated, reliable measures of psychiatric symptoms, personality structure, and other psychological constructs to produce a rich clinical portrait for use in diagnosis and treatment planning. He is able to parse complex clinical presentations for differential diagnosis (e.g., bipolar II disorder versus borderline personality disorder). Dr. Maxwell offers a specialized neurodivergence assessment option for adults who suspect they may have undiagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

Exceptionally prompt, client-centered explanations of findings and implications, with reports tailored to your goals

Dr. Maxwell provides each client with digestible, therapeutic feedback about results of their assessment. He helps clients understand their diagnoses, if applicable, and plan and implement next steps for treatment or other care services. • and more . . .

Valid estimates of cognitive abilities, strengths and weaknesses

Dr. Maxwell uses a battery of extensively researched, well-validated, and reliable instruments to help assess cognitive functioning including verbal abilities, abstract reasoning abilities, and working memory. He is also able to provide brief screenings for neurocognitive deficits as a precursor to formal neuropsychological assessment by a neuropsychologist.

How does it work?

Each comprehensive evaluation requires roughly 4-6 hours of videoconferencing with Dr. Maxwell. These hours include but are not limited to unstructured and semi-structured interviews, self-report inventories, and other testing. Additional self-report measures may be completed independently via secure links with temporary access. Dr. Maxwell may also ask to speak with someone familiar with you (e.g., your sibling, parent/guardian, additional providers, or significant other) to obtain “3rd party” information to assist in his evaluation(s).

To maximize the validity and reliability of all information collected during evaluation(s), Dr. Maxwell requests that each client find a quiet, private space wherein they can focus for an extended and uninterrupted period of time.

After the evaluation, you will receive a comprehensive report within 72 hours for your records, as well as an additional “user-friendly,” jargon-free summary of your results.
